Will Young
William Robert "Will" Young (born January 20, 1979 in Wokingham , Berkshire , Great Britain ) is a British singer and actor .
Career
Young was born in 1979 in Wokingham, UK and grew up in Hungerford . He started his career in March 2002 as the winner of the first talent show Pop Idol on British television. Also in March 2002 he came out as gay.
Will's first single included Evergreen , previously released by Westlife , and Anything Is Possible , written by Cathy Dennis for the talent show winner. On the day of the release, 403,027 copies were sold, making the single the best-selling debut single in the history of the British charts . With over 1.7 million records, the single is now number 12 on the list of the best-selling singles in Great Britain .
Young also tried to build on his successes in Great Britain in other countries. In 2003 his debut album From Now On was released in Germany , Italy and the Netherlands . He had achieved good success in Italy and the Netherlands, but failed to succeed in Germany. With the single All Time Love he tried again in 2006 to make the breakthrough in Germany, which he was again denied.
In addition to numerous awards, Young received the Brit Award in 2003 for Best Newcomer and in 2005 for his single Your Game . In the same year he made his acting debut as Berty in Stephen Frears ' comedy Lady Henderson presented , alongside Judi Dench and Bob Hoskins, among others .
