Cathy Dennis
Catherine "Cathy" Roseanne Dennis (born March 25, 1969 in Norwich ) is an English singer , songwriter and producer .
Career
Cathy Dennis began her career at the age of 14 in her father's band, Alan Dennis. It was at this age that she met Danny D., who advised her to move to London . In 1988, Dennis was discovered by Simon Fuller and signed her first record deal with the Polydor label. In 1989 she met Danny D. again and sang on his project D Mob and the single C'mon And Get My Love , which made it into the UK's Top 20. Her debut single Just Another Dream was released in late 1989, but it initially flopped.
In the summer of 1990, Just Another Dream was remixed by Shep Pettibone and reached the top 10 on the US Billboard charts . It wasn't until July 1991 that the song entered the British charts. Her second hit single Touch Me (All Night Long) was also a hit in the US. The third single Too Many Walls also made it into the top 10 of the US Billboard charts. Cathy was more successful in the United States than in her home country at the time. In 1993 he made a guest appearance in the successful US series Beverly Hills, 90210 .
From the beginning of her career, Cathy Dennis not only sang ready-made material, but also participated as both a writer and a producer. In 1992 she began to write for other artists too, e. B. Love's On Every Corner for Dannii Minogue . Although Cathy Dennis released albums and singles at regular intervals until the end of the 1990s, she was unable to build on her earlier successes. Only with Waterloo Sunset she was able to take 11th place in the British charts again in early 1997.
In the last few years, Cathy Dennis worked exclusively as a songwriter and producer. In 1996 she wrote the title Bumber To Bumper for the Spice Girls , the B-side of the hit single Wannabe .
Her most successful composition worldwide was the title Can't Get You Out Of My Head , which became a great success for Kylie Minogue in the fall of 2001 . Another title for Minogue was Come Into My World (2002), which won a Grammy in 2004 in the “Best Dance Recording” category.
Other successful compositions by Cathy Dennis were Anything Is Possible (2002) for Will Young , Toxic for Britney Spears (also awarded a Grammy in 2005) and About you now (2007) for Sugababes . Other artists who recorded their songs were Emma Bunton , Kelly Clarkson , Celine Dion , Gareth Gates , Delta Goodrem , Ronan Keating , Janet Jackson , Pink and Rachel Stevens .
I Kissed a Girl (2008) by Katy Perry , on which Cathy Dennis co-composed, was the seventh song she wrote to reach the top ten American singles and also the first to become a number one hit. This also made the song the 1000th number one on the Billboard Hot 100 .
