Mehringen is a district of the city of Aschersleben in the Salzlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt with 1098 inhabitants (December 31, 2007). Today the townscape is shaped by the listed village church St. Stephani .

The place is on the banks of the Wipper , about five kilometers southeast of the city of Aschersleben.

history

On May 5, 1086, Bishop Burchard II of Halberstadt gave 10 Hufen Landes in Merynge to the Ilsenburg Monastery . This is the oldest mention of the place. A knight Alverich von Mehringen had his seat here from 1142 to 1162. At least since the 13th century, Mehringen belonged to the Ascanian principality of Anhalt . Oda von Mehringen founded a monastery of the Cistercian women in 1222 . This developed into a spiritual and economic center for the area. In 1525 it was destroyed in the Peasants' War.

In 1882 the Drohndorf / Mahringen station was opened on the line from Halberstadt to Halle.

Mehringen municipality

Until it was incorporated into Aschersleben on January 1, 2008, Mehringen was an independent municipality in the administrative community of Aschersleben / Land with an area of ​​11.7 km². The municipal council, elected for the last time on June 13, 2004, was composed of twelve council members, seven of whom belonged to a free electoral group, four to the CDU parliamentary group and one to the SPD parliamentary group. The last mayor of the community was Albrecht Schneidewind.

Personalities

  • In 1542 the Protestant theologian and writer Michael Sachs († 1618) was born in Aschersleben . He was a fighter for the Counter Reformation and published numerous writings.
  • In 1810 the Protestant theologian Friedrich Ahlfeld was born in Mehringen . He is considered to be the innovator of Lutheranism in Saxony in the 19th century.
