Klein Schierstedt has been part of the town of Aschersleben in the Salzlandkreis since March 4, 2005 and is located on the south bank of the Wipper in the state of Saxony-Anhalt . 395 inhabitants live in the district (December 31, 2003) . The area of ​​the former municipality is just over 7 km². The place is in the Wippertal of the Harz foreland.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1010 under the name Seerstedt . This document is dated April 28, 1010, so that the village will celebrate its 1000th anniversary in 2010. The settlement in Anhalt initially developed in two parts: the Dessau part and the Coethnic part . On June 1, 1860, the two communities were merged to Klein Schierstedt.

Between 1913 and 1915, a mine was built in the place , from which potash was extracted until the 1960s .

On July 1, 1950, Klein Schierstedt was merged with the neighboring community of Groß Schierstedt to form a new community called Schierstedt . This was dissolved on January 1, 1957. Groß Schierstedt and Klein Schierstedt became independent communities again. On March 4, 2005, Klein Schierstedt came to Aschersleben.

In the center of the village, the Gnadenkirche rises up with its spire that was restored in 2008. The church was built in 1590, as evidenced by a building charter carved in stone on the north side of the nave . The tower had to be rebuilt in the 19th century. Today's mighty tower in its distinctive shape (octagonal towards the top) was built in 1825. In the middle of the chancel there is an imposing baptismal font . It was donated in 1590 by a citizen of Klein Schierstedt. The baptismal font was brought to Klein Schierstedt from another unknown church, so it is significantly older than the church itself. The organ on the west side of the nave is also remarkable. Due to its size, part of the ceiling had to be broken off. It was created by an organ builder in Dessau and erected on November 25, 1866. It is still playable today. The place has a regionally known church choir.

Further cultural monuments are listed in the local register of monuments.

The local rifle club operates its own shooting range with a club house. Members regularly take part in regional, national and national competitions, with u. a. notable successes z. B. in the discipline order rifle at the championship of the Landesschützenverband Sachsen-Anhalt and the German championship of the DSB. Together with the choir and the volunteer fire brigade, the association is a cultural institution in town.

A new, modern fire station was built in 2008 for the Klein Schierstedt volunteer fire department .

Klein Schierstedt has been shaped by agriculture for centuries . In the center is the Schierstedter Schokoladenfabrik GmbH and Co. KG with 65 employees, most of whom come from the locality. It is a company that specializes in producing high quality raw materials for the food industry.
