Culture and sights

St. Kilians Church

St. Kilians Church Schackstedt

The Schackstedter Church is the only Kilians Church in the Evangelical State Church of Anhalt, there are three more in the Naumburg area in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.

The current building follows the tradition of the old church, which was demolished at the end of the 19th century. Its history possibly goes back to the time of the Irish Scottish monks in the 8th century and can therefore be regarded as the earliest site of Christianity in Anhalt. At that time there was probably a monastery cell founded by an Irish-Scottish monk on today's Kirchberg, a so-called "island of saints".

The St. Kilians Church was built between 1883 and 1884. Wood sculptor Gustav Kuntzsch , Wernigerode , provided the pulpit , number boards , offering sticks , a lectern and doors. The construction costs amounted to 56,813.23 marks. The inauguration took place on the 3rd Advent in 1884.

The rectory, built in the same brick style as the church, is rented out and used for church purposes. Furthermore, the rectory has a spacious garden, which has only been regaining shape in recent years. The natural stone wall that surrounds the garden property has been repaired. The Dietrich-Bonhoeffer -Heim parish hall is located in the courtyard of the property. It is used for community work. A plaque installed in 1973 in the presence of his biographer Eberhard Bethge commemorates the anti-fascist theologian who was murdered in the Flossenbürg concentration camp in 1945 . After 2002 the buildings were renovated. The current pastor no longer lives in Schackstedt and the parish only has half a pastor's position.

Economy and Infrastructure

economy

There is a construction company, a stainless steel construction, a locksmith's shop, a kitchen studio, a gardening tool shop, a grill snack bar on Bundesstrasse 6, an expert's office and agriculture as main and sideline. After the fall of the Wall, the shops in town were closed. There used to be a bakery, a country department store, Konsum and Martchen's little "grocer".

traffic

Bundesstraße 6 , Halle (Saale) to Quedlinburg runs through the district of Schackstedt . The federal motorway 14 , which leads from Halle (Saale) to Magdeburg , is in the east of Schackstedt.
