history

St. Stephen's Church

The place was first mentioned in a document as Cokstedi in 941 . In 1535 the town was granted city rights by Albrecht V , Bishop of Halberstadt. In 1693 a great fire broke out in Cochstedt, in which almost the entire city was destroyed. Since 1701 Cochstedt belonged to Prussia. On March 1, 2004, the previously independent city was incorporated into the city of Hecklingen.

One of the most important sights is the Protestant St. Stephen's Church , which was built from 1204 and consecrated in 1225. In a renovation phase in 1879, the church was given its current appearance. In 1881 a pulpit created by wood sculptor Gustav Kuntzsch from Wernigerode was installed.
The small Catholic church Christ König on Lindenstrasse was built in 1938, it has since been secularized and was sold to private customers on September 25, 2014.

The Cochstedt sugar factory was built in 1848 on the western outskirts. Around 1900 she built the Cochstedter Feldbahn with a gauge of 600 mm, it began in the factory yard and then ran east through the center of the town. In 1934 the sugar factory was shut down. The light railroad was probably dismantled shortly afterwards, today there are no more traces of it in the place.

On September 30, 1928, the forest district of Hackelforst was merged with the city of Cochstedt. On November 1, 1928, the manor district of Cochstedt was united with the city of Cochstedt.

coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on July 17, 1996 by the Magdeburg Regional Council.

Blazon : "Three leaping foxes in mixed colors, split in stacks of silver and red."

The redesign of the coat of arms of Cochstedt, which until 1995 was carried out in common law without legitimation, was realized by the heraldist Jörg Mantzsch in the style of contemporary heraldic art on the basis of a drawing by Otto Hupp for the approval process.

Cochstedt (formerly Kochstedt) received its coat of arms after Hupp probably in the 16th century by Albrecht von Brandenburg , who became Archbishop of Magdeburg and administrator of the Diocese of Halberstadt in 1513 at the age of 23 . A seal with this coat of arms can be traced back to 1535. The shield, split by silver and red, refers to the coat of arms of the bishops of Halberstadt , whose territorial affiliation and authority Cochstedt used to be.

Infrastructure and economy

Bundesstraße 180 runs east of the village ; Landstrasse 75 runs through Cochstedt itself.

In 1897, when the Aschersleben – Nienhagen line was opened, it was connected to the railway network. The railway line was closed again in 1963 for passenger traffic.

Magdeburg-Cochstedt Airport is located in the area south of the village .
