Life

former Latin school (left) u. St.Stephani (right)

Joachim Ramdohr attended the Latin school in Aschersleben, founded in 1325 (from which today's Stephaneum high school emerged ). In his determined career, he made it from Ermsleben's mayor's son and arable citizen through a career as a craftsman, saddler (1613) and wealthy landowner to a position as dignitary (1632 and 1634: court lord in the council files of Aschersleben), councilor, member of the magistrate and builder. From 1646 to 1667 he was elected to honorary posts eight times in a row as “wine owner, builder and sub-builder”. His presence in the portrait series of former Aschersleben magistrate members from 1660 (gallery next to the organ bySt. Stephani ) proves that he must have been involved in the “excellent management of the city” at the time of the Thirty Years War . He outlived most of his twelve children and even the famous eldest son, the ducal Brunswick syndic and ambassador Andreas Ramdohr , by eleven years. Many descendants in Central Germany can be traced back to him, including the lawyer and author Basilius von Ramdohr , who became famous through the Ramdohr dispute .

ancestors

Joachim Ramdohr came from the traditional Aschersleben branch of the Ramdohr family (mentioned in a document as early as 1378 in an indictment by Bishop Albrecht von Halberstadt against the citizens of Aschersleben for building the city fortifications on his own initiative, which was published by Ludwig Hänselmann ).

His great-grandparents were Andreas Ramdohr (* approx. 1490; † May 31, 1547?), Citizen and linen weaver in Aschersleben, and Magdalena, née. Kreye (n) (* approx. 1500, daughter of Andreas Kreyen and Magdalena Tetzener or Fetzner), who had several children, including the presumed great-uncles Joachim Ramdohrs, an administrator in Endorf , a citizen named Joachim Ramdohr (* 1540; † before 1614 Aschersleben; father of the bricklayer Andreas Ramdohr (* 1557; ⚭ January 1, 1591 with Anna Moring; † November 20, 1615), all of whose children succumbed to the plague) and a hypothetical citizen in Aschersleben Hans Ramdohr (* around 1525; ⚭ around 1550) as the progenitor of the well-known Aschersleben lines after the blacksmith Hans Ramdohr (* around 1556; ⚭ around 1580; † June 8, 1618).

The grandfather of Joachim Ramdohr was in the service of Count von Mansfeld standing Gerichtsschöffe the Office Arnstein , Andreas Ramdohr (* od 1520 1535 Aschersleben;. † 1585 Ermsleben?). From his marriage in Ermsleben (approx. 1545?) To Anna Fritzgen (* approx. 1525, parents: Andreas Fritzgen and Margarethe Kühn), Valentin Ramdohr (mentioned in 1614 as a godfather), Anna Ramdohr (married on April 7th, 1600 in Aschersleben ; † September 3, 1611 ibid) and Burchard Ramdohr, for whom some sources cite a title of nobility.

Burchard Ramdohr (* approx. 1556 in Aschersleben; † approx. 1630 in Ermsleben) was mayor of Ermsleben for a total of 24 years between 1594 and 1628 and council chamberlain in 1614. He was a landlord and owner of a fiefdom of the Lords of Hoym and bought ten acres of land in Sinsleben in 1609. Around 1586 he married Margarethe Wilsenack (* 1565; † approx. 1617), later around 1619 Ursula Schulthesius († March 8, 1650, Aschersleben) and had 15 children from these two marriages. From the first marriage in Ermsleben on August 26, 1587, Joachim Ramdohr and his unnamed sister, who died in Aschersleben on October 18, 1635, and probably the progenitor of the Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel branch of the family, the ducal Braunschweig Capitaine des Armes, came from Andreas Ramdohr (* around 1617 in Ermsleben; † after 1688, probably in Braunschweig), who in turn fathered 15 children in two marriages in Braunschweig.

Portrait of Joachim Ramdohr 1656

In the above-mentioned oil painting Joachim Ramdohr is shown with reddish, shoulder-length hair and a gray goatee, in a black robe with a large, lying white collar in the manner of a little monkey . To the left of the portrait hovers a modified personal coat of arms, only in red and white. Instead of the tournament helmet, there are two half-lying construction tools in a black field; instead of the rafters and the lion, three wheat stalks are shown between roofed round towers, which both indicate Joachim's professional activities. In accordance with the commonly used Ramdohr family coat of arms, however, the buffalo horns, which grow from the helmet bulge and helmet cover and are divided over the corner, and the red rose between them, which cannot otherwise be found on any of the paintings in the portrait series in the Stephanikirche. The age shown under the coat of arms (Aetatis suae 69) indicates that the work was made in 1656.

Interesting facts from the history of Aschersleber

  • The mayor Valentin Drosihn , who was ashamed of his very large nose and therefore decided not to portray it, is missing from the series of portraits of Aschersleber magistrate members painted by the painter Wulf Ernst Lindemeyer (* 1601; † around 1663) around 1660 (to be seen in the Stephanichurch ) .
  • Joachim Ramdohr's wedding with Armgard Ebert on September 21, 1612 was held in the groom's house on Breite Strasse .
  • According to a letter dated February 5, 1666, Ramdohr's house in the Breiten Strasse, along with 31 other houses, fell victim to a four-hour large fire on November 3, 1665, which is why he received twelve talers from the city council of Braunschweig as help in the form of a fire letter his late son Andreas Ramdohr had previously served us well for many years.
  • In the "Acker-Profession" (declaration of land ownership) of 1666, according to which Joachim Ramdohr had an important possession for the time, there is the incorrect but handwritten signature: Ramdhor
