Ramdohr is the name of an old Central German and Brunswick - Hanover noble family. The place of origin of the Ramdohr family was the town of Aschersleben in Saxony-Anhalt since the 12th century ; from 1686 to 1839 she owned the Drübber estate in Lower Saxony.

The oldest representatives of the Ramdohr family were probably knightly and possibly came from Flemish. They could have settled as colonizers ( locators ) in the eastern part of the Harz Mountains around 1160 , in the course of the Ascanian colonization of the areas of Saxony and the Margraviate of Brandenburg under Albrecht the Bear, which were depopulated by constant feuds . However, the family subsequently belonged to the bourgeoisie of the city of Aschersleben - since it was first mentioned in a document in 1377.

The name Ramdohr was already mentioned on a document from 1377 found and published by the archivist Ludwig Hänselmann (complaint by Bishop Albrecht III of Halberstadt against the citizens of Aschersleben for building the city fortifications without authorization). There has been evidence that representatives of the family have lived in and around Aschersleben since then and have held various public offices as judges, magistrates and mayors, such as Joachim Ramdohr and his ancestors. Descendants of the same belonged from the 17th to the 20th century to the state patriciate ( Pretty Families ) in the Electoral Hanover-Braunschweig area. After the annexation of Hanover in 1866, some bearers of the name can be found in Prussia, especially in Berlin and Potsdam , and more recently in Kassel, Constance, Munich, Wittenberg and in South America. The branch of the family that remained in Aschersleben also extends to the present day.

The nobility must have existed since ancient times, since as early as 1646 a Georg Wilhelm von Ramdohr created feudal deeds for the dukes Christian Ludwig and Georg Wilhelm von Hanover and also the first bearer of names demonstrably raised to imperial nobility in early modern times, Andreas Ramdohr , around 1650 already had the coat of arms referring to such ancestry. His son Albrecht Andreas von Ramdohr, envoy in the service of the Electorate of Hanover, was given the Drübber manor ( County Hoya ), today's Heisenhof , in 1686 , which remained in the family's possession until 1839, and his son was given the Sülbeck estate near Einbeck before 1750 . Furthermore, the nobility patent was renewed by the electoral prince in 1716 and, according to a publication dated January 23, 1719, confirmed again by the imperial court in Vienna, since the family had already been in the nobility many years ago . Grote ( genealogical and coat of arms book of the Kingdom of Hanover and the Duchy of Braunschweig. 1843; under Edelleute & Pag. 2) reads: “Shield split, in front (left) in silver three red left sloping bars, behind in blue one that pops up (rising) golden lion. On the blue-gold and red-silver puffed tournament helmets a red rose, trimmed with gold, between two buffalo horns, which are divided across the corner in gold / blue and red / silver. The helmet covers are red / silver and blue / gold. Meaning: Bars stand for strength, the lion for courage, the tournament helmet for good descent and knightly spirit and the rose for blood shed in battle. The buffalo horns express dispute. Trivia

The "von Ramdohr" dragoon regiment, which perished in 1803, still appears by name on sound carriers. Around 1782 to 1790 an anonymous composer created the march of the Kurhannoverschen Dragoon Regiment from Ramdohr . After the annexation of Hanover by Prussia in 1866, this found its way into the Prussian army march collection of 1900 with other Hanoverian military marches :
