Particular

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Partikulier is in the inland shipping an independent ship owner who also drives itself. He usually works as a subcontractor for larger shipping companies and usually only owns one or two ships.

In order to secure the procurement of cargo, particular parties are usually grouped together in cooperatives or ship operating associations.

The Partikulier only uses his own ships to transport goods . This is where he differs from the shipowners. He also has no land-based administration.

Previous meaning

In the 19th century, particular meant something like rentier or privateer , a man living alone without a job or office, who usually had sufficient income from his property.
