A private person [ pʁivaˈtjeː ], also Privatus and female Privata or Privatière , is generally considered to be a person who is financially so well off that he or she is not dependent on pursuing gainful employment to cover his material needs, regardless of how they are Fortune has come. Development of meaning

The use of the word privateer as a substitute for a job title emerged during the 19th century as the middle class rose.

The term private is also used for entrepreneurs, managers, top athletes and politicians who have been retired.

Frequency in Germany

There were around 627,000 private individuals in Germany in 2018. In 2000 there were still around 372,000 people. This corresponds to an increase of 68.5% since the turn of the millennium.
