Meinkot [ ˈmaɪ̯nˌkɔtʰ ] is a district of the Lower Saxony municipality of Velpke in the Helmstedt district . About 564 inhabitants currently live in an area of ​​5 km² (as of December 31, 2008).

history

Meinkot was first mentioned in 1145 under the name Meincoten . Meinkot has belonged to the Helmstedt district since 1832 , but was an independent municipality until the village was incorporated into the municipality of Velpke on July 1, 1972.

In the 18th and 19th centuries, the Braunschweig – Calvörde postal route ran via Meinkot .

coat of arms

Since August 25, 2006, the place has had its own coat of arms, which the shooting club gave to the citizens of Meinkot on the occasion of its 150th anniversary as a thank you for the good village community. The coat of arms, split by blue and gold, shows in front a golden beet with three golden leaves (as a symbol for agriculture in the local area) and in the back a blue millstone with mill iron (referring to a local legend in which a millstone plays an important role), underneath a blue wave bar (as a reference to this legend and the village pond that is still present today).
