Wahrstedt is a district of the municipality of Velpke in the Helmstedt district in Lower Saxony (Germany). The Büstedt residential area also belongs to Wahrstedt .

location

Wahrstedt is 12 km east of Wolfsburg . The two creeks Katharinenbach and Schaumburgriede flow through the village, and after a few kilometers flow into the Aller . The neighboring villages are Meinkot , Velpke , Grafhorst and Oebisfelde . In the neighboring village of Velpke you have the opportunity to do your daily shopping through many shops and discounters.

history

In 1264, Wahrstedt was first mentioned in a document. The village used to have a school with several classrooms, a train station and two restaurants called "Dorfkrug" and "Zur Eisenbahn".

As a result of the flight and expulsion of Germans from Central and Eastern Europe from 1945–1950 , the population of Wahrstedt increased from 323 (1939) to 624 (1950), of which 226 were displaced in 1950 . In later years, the number of inhabitants decreased again due to the remote location of Wahrstedt on the GDR border and the low number of jobs.

On July 1, 1972, Wahrstedt was incorporated into the municipality of Velpke.

On November 26, 1989, the inner German border between Büstedt and Oebisfelde was opened.

In 2018, the village community center , which also housed the fire brigade, was demolished. In the same year the construction of a new fire station according to the plans of the architect Wilfried Kuhn began. A replacement building for the village community center has not yet been built for financial reasons.
