Hans Wolff (mathematician)

Hans Wolff (born December 20, 1938 in Leipzig ) is a German mathematician . He was rector of Ulm University , Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the German University in Cairo (GUC) and founding president of the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University .

Live and act

Hans Wolff attended elementary school in Wahrstedt from 1946 to 1949 and the New High School in Braunschweig from 1949 to 1958 , where he passed the Abitur . From 1958 to 1964 he studied mathematics and physics at the TH Braunschweig . After receiving his doctorate from Ernst Henze (1969) and his habilitation in mathematics (1979), he was appointed adjunct professor at the Technical University of Braunschweig in 1984.

Hans Wolff was appointed professor at Ulm University in 1987. From 1991 to 1993 he was dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Economics. From 1995 to 2003 he was rector of the University of Ulm, from 1998 to 2000 also chairman of the state rectors 'conference of Baden-Württemberg and from 1998 to 2003 a member of the senate of the university rectors' conference.

In addition, he was active in the field of statistics in industrial companies, associations and non-university research institutions.

Wolff has been Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the German University in Cairo since 2003. In 2009 he was appointed founding president of the DHBW. On February 28, 2011, he handed this position over to his successor Reinhold R. Geilsdörfer .

Hans Wolff gained experience in local politics in Lower Saxony as Mayor of Velpke and a member of the district council.

Hans Wolff is married and has one child.
