Ernst Henze (mathematician)

Ernst Henze (born August 17, 1927 in Blankenburg ; † February 15, 1986 in Munich ) was a German mathematician and university professor.

Life

After returning from captivity, Henze studied mathematics at the University of Rostock from 1947 to 1951 and then worked there as a research assistant. In 1952 he moved to Telefunken GmbH in Ulm at their newly founded research institute. In 1956 he was awarded the Prize of the Telecommunications Society in the VDE .

Henze received his doctorate in 1958 from the TH Stuttgart and habilitated there in 1961 in mathematics. In 1965 he was appointed professor at the Technical University of Braunschweig and took over the Institute for Mathematical Stochastics as director. From 1969 to 1972 he was dean of the faculty and from 1972 to 1974 rector of the university. Henze is considered one of the most important advocates of the introduction of computer science in 1972 at the TU Braunschweig. Since 1976 he has been a member of the Braunschweig Scientific Society .

In his research, his focus was on probability theory and statistics , in particular on learning processes and their convergence.
