Michael Weber (computer scientist)

Michael Weber (born November 27, 1959 in Ramstein ) is a German computer scientist , professor at the University of Ulm and its president since 2015 .

Michael Weber studied computer science at the University of Kaiserslautern from 1979 and received his doctorate there in 1990 on an application development method for Xputer as a Dr.-Ing. After completing his doctorate, he worked successively as a development engineer at Litef in Freiburg and at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence in Saarbrücken , before accepting a professorship in the distributed systems department at Ulm University in 1994. In 2000 he took over the management of what is now the Institute for Media Informatics .

Michael Weber's main research interests are mobile and ubiquitous computing , human-computer interaction and serious games . From 1998 to 2002 he was dean of the then faculty for computer science, from 2008 to 2010 dean of the then faculty for engineering and computer science at the University of Ulm. From 2010 to 2015 Weber was a member of the Senate as a professor . He is also a board member of the Collaborative Research Center / Transregio 62 “A Companion Technology for Cognitive Technical Systems” and the Center for General Scientific Further Education .

In 2015, Michael Weber was elected to succeed Karl Joachim Ebeling as President of Ulm University in the first ballot .
