First mention of Harkerode

Harkerode is a district of the town of Arnstein in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Geographical location

Harkerode is located on the eastern edge of the Harz, about 9 km northwest of Hettstedt .

history

Harkerode was first mentioned as Harrikesrothe in a document from King Otto I of September 13, 936 . On October 22, 973 it was mentioned as Kerlingorod .

On the area between the Chaussee to Welbsleben, the Chaussee to the Arnstein and the brook from Sylda, the Stettlein Schnakerode was located in the Middle Ages . After its demise, an estate belonging to the von Knigge noble family was built there, but this has now also perished.

From the end of the 17th century to the beginning of the 19th century there was an important post office in the village on the post and trade route between the Hanseatic cities of Halle (Saale) and Hamburg , from which the Gasthaus Grünes Röckchen emerged from 1817 .

The formerly independent place was incorporated into the neighboring municipality of Sylda on July 1, 1950 . On April 1, 1990, he was spun off from Sylda and was then self-employed again for almost twenty years. On January 1, 2010, the communities of Harkerode, Alterode , Bräunrode , Greifenhagen , Quenstedt , Stangerode , Sylda, Ulzigerode and Welbsleben as well as the city of Sandersleben (Anhalt) merged to form the new city of Arnstein. The administrative association Wipper-Eine , to which Harkerode belonged, was dissolved.
