Johann Christian Ramdohr (born November 8, 1730 in Aschersleben , † October 26, 1803 in Groß Schierstedt ) was a German high school vice principal , pastor and beekeeper .

origin

Johann Christian Ramdohr was the oldest child from the marriage of the Aschersleben lawyer, citizen and brewer Johann David Ramdohr (born April 15, 1706 - February 14, 1742) with Anna Elisabeth (born October 11, 1704), daughter of the tanner Gottfried Rudeloff, from Aschersleben. He was the uncle of the zoologist Karl August Ramdohr .

Life

Ramdohr attended the grammar school in Aschersleben, the so-called Stephaneum , at the time when the old building was replaced by a new building in the same place at the Stephanikirchhof around 1745. At that time Johann Jacob Stäcker was rector of the Stephaneum. After three years of studying in Halle and two years of work as a private tutor with the legal advisor Martin Köhler in Biesenrode , Ramdohr received a position as sub-clerk at the Stephaneum under Stäcker in 1754. On November 23, 1759 he married his first wife, Johanna Christiane Louise Specht (born July 19, 1737 in Aschersleben, † August 27, 1791 in Groß Schierstedt), and on November 21, 1760 their first son Friedrich Christian Carl Ramdohr was born.

Also in 1760, as a member of the teaching staff, Johann Christian Ramdohr experienced the removal of the 12-year-old Gottfried August Bürger from the Stephaneum by the rector GW Aurbach . Probably shortly after this inglorious event, around 1762, Ramdohr was promoted to vice rector at the Stephaneum, and at around the same time was a preacher at the communal church on the market. On June 6, 1762, on the occasion of the peace treaty with Russia, he gave the main sermon of the official peace festival in St. Stephen's Church . He had his speech printed and handed it over to the city's magistrate for 20 thalers. However, Ramdohr left Aschersleben soon after and was ordained in Magdeburg on November 27, 1764. On December 23 of the same year he was introduced as a pastor in Groß Schierstedt and remained in this office until the end of his life.

beekeeping

Around 1764/65 he began building bee colonies, but suffered a number of setbacks until he became aware of magazine beekeeping in the literature and perfected it with particular thoroughness. He published his experiences, titled as an expression of the patriotic sentiment of a preacher, first in 1777 as an article for a magazine and soon afterwards as a book in four editions in 1779, published by Carl Wilhelm Ettinger zu Gotha in 1790, 1797 and 1812. The fourth edition was after his death by Johann Köllner, pastor of Tüngeda , published. On June 26, 1792, at the age of almost 62, Johann Christian Ramdohr married his second wife, Amalie Margarethe Rode (1751–1809), daughter of a merchant there, who however remained childless.
