history
In 1204 a Werner von Wechsungen was named. His seat was probably within the present location on the site of a small tower hill on which there was a castle. It served to secure the road leading from Nordhausen to the west in the direction of Duderstadt. Only sparse remains of the tower castle (Motte) are left.
The settlements of Unkerode , Klübingen , Lengsfeld and Wiestädt, now known as desert areas , were located around the village .
A well-known break was the Gasthaus Am Schern .
Most of the corridor was owned by five manors. According to a statistical study, the village of Großwechselungen had 4 Catholic and 1085 Protestant inhabitants around 1840. 134 houses, 284 stables and barns, a village jug and a school were also mentioned. A teacher taught the school-age 87 boys and 92 girls. The overview lists 58 linen weavers, two bakers, two shoemakers, a tailor, two carpenters, two house butchers , two wagons, three blacksmiths, a grinding mill, as well as 24 maids and 31 servants as commercial and handicraft businesses . Two grocers (Victualienhandel) procured the necessary groceries from outside. The total livestock consisted of 141 horses, 299 cattle, 1,896 sheep, 73 goats and 291 pigs.
The village corridor comprised 5,225 acres , of which the arable land comprised 3,991 acres of arable land, 34 acres of garden land, and 193 acres of meadow. Furthermore, 678 acres of private forest as well as 59 acres of community forest and 23 acres of fallow land were named. The yield of the fields was assessed as poor to mediocre.
According to Gruhle, Bruno Sonnekalb cultivated 109 hectares in 1923, Heinrich Lücke 125 hectares and Franz Dittmann 143 hectares in the corridor of the village. The estate, managed by Bruno Sonnekalb, was expropriated without compensation in 1945 and continued to be owned by the state and the people .
With the dissolution of the Helmetal administrative community , the formerly independent municipality of Großwechselungen became part of the newly formed municipality of Werther on January 1, 1997.
With around 860 inhabitants, Großwechselungen is the second largest town in the Werther community.

The venue was the sports field, which was made available free of charge by the football club. Additional costs such as electricity and water, took over the community . The costs for the judges and the marquee amounted to a good 16,000 euros.
