The settlement of Schern is part of a major change in the municipality of Werther in the Nordhausen district in Thuringia .

geography

The settlement is located southeast of Nordhausen between Werther and Großwechselungen on the former Bundesstraße 80 (today: Landesstraße 3080 ) from Nordhausen to Kassel , a few meters south of the intersection of Großwechselunger Straße (today: Landesstraße 2070) to Werther.

Waters

Some trenches flow from the hamlet, in a north-northwest direction to the Röstegraben .

history

After Wolfgang Kahl , the settlement of Schern was first mentioned in a document in 1390.

During the Wars of Liberation , on April 14, 1813, a skirmish between Cossacks under the leadership of the Russian prince Jlowaisky XII broke out. and the Westphalian guard cavalry of King Jerome of Westphalia standing near Pustleben .

The restaurant was used as a resting place by carriage drivers and later by drivers and, in the 1950s, as a dance venue because the place could be reached on foot. In the 1960s, the inn was converted into a dormitory for apprentices.

Trivia

The settlement lacks a drinking water pipe. Until now, the residents used their own drinking water wells, which is no longer possible because the permissible nitrate levels are exceeded. The cost estimate for a drinking water pipe from Werther is 430,000 € for currently 15 residents, which is why the responsible drinking water association would like to refrain from investing because of concerns about possible misappropriation of public funds. The Thuringian Court of Auditors is to assess whether such an investment could actually constitute embezzlement.
