history

On 25/26 July 1184 was classified worthy first mentioned. But a documentary mention of Werther from 1093 also refers to Kleinwerther.

The name Werther means island in North Germany and can be explained in connection with the drainage of the surrounding land by monks from the Walkenried monastery in the 12th century.

In Kleinwerther, on the site of the preserved castle of the former manor, there was a moated castle , which was built in the 11th century and destroyed in the Peasants' War in 1525. Three barrel cellars under the still existing manor house and remains of the moat still bear witness to the facility. The Lords of Werthern were mentioned in a document in 1209. The comments on Werther provide information about events during the Third Reich .

There are still a few grave monuments in the old cemetery Kleinwerther, such as that of the Nebelung family. A memorial for those who fell in World War I was erected by the Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold . A memorial from the time after the fall of the Wall commemorates the victims of the Second World War .
