Pützlingen, originally an Angerdorf , is located in the northern Thuringian hill country , in the valley of the Helme , which flows past the northern edge of the development boundary in an easterly direction, in the Helme-Unstrut lowland, on a valley or hillside. The B 243 connects the place with the next larger city Nordhausen .

The area around the village extends to the southern border of the South Harz Nature Park . Only a few hundred meters north of Pützlingen are some karst phenomena. The closest places are Liebenrode in the north, Günzerode in the east, Etzelsrode in the south, Schiedungen in the east and Holbach in the north-west.

history

The village was first mentioned in June 1129. The settlement developed around the former Pützlinger manor in the area of ​​the former municipal administration. The settlement has lengthened along the village road to the east, so that today one speaks more of a street village .

With the dissolution of the Helmetal administrative association , the once independent municipality of Pützlingen became part of the newly formed municipality of Werther on January 1, 1997.

The place name goes back to Old High German . In the local chronicle the terms puzza , puzzi and büsci can be found, they stand for “puddle”, “fountain” (Latin: puteus ), “swamp” or something similar.

  • On the 249.6 m high Rolandsberg (formerly Rodelandsberg ) southeast of Pützlingen are two sinkholes , one of which is 40 m in diameter and 9 m deep, the other is 38 m in diameter and 7.5 m deep. Allegedly they were made between 1830 and 1840, but this is not proven.
