geography
course
The source area of the Röstegraben lies south of Großwechselungen. The Mönchsquelle , a now silted pond that was south-southeast of the town, is named as the largest and most important source . The Röstegraben initially flows westwards, where it is reinforced by further springs. Before he reaches the place Großwechselungen, he turns to the north. In major changes, it initially flows along an allotment garden. Later, it flows past the Kleine Entdecker day care center at low speed . Before it leaves the village again, it changes its direction of flow again and now flows eastwards at a higher speed. Its direction of flow no longer changes up to the point where it flows into the helmets .
Tributaries
The tributaries of the Röstegraben are (downstream):
- Monk fountain
- Unruly trenches
- Dig long bridge
- Kirchgraben
- Ditch desert path
- Lingstal ditch
- Graben Untererm Gliebiger Berg
- Kalter-Bach
The Röstegraben as a model project of the Free State of Thuringia
In 2005 a model project was started, which should show how sustainable water development should happen in the future. The stream has been renatured and made accessible to the population by large changes. To improve the structure of the water, sturgeon stones and gravel banks were introduced and provide shelter for microorganisms and fish. New connections for households to the newly laid or supplemented sewers were created. The discharge of waste water from private and commercial small sewage treatment plants into the stream has decreased significantly. The local elementary school, the laundry and some streets were connected to the new sewer network immediately in 2005. However, the remaining amount of sewage introduced still affects the relatively poorly performing receiving water today (2015), since not all properties are connected to the fully biological pond sewage treatment plant, which was also built in 2005. The work on the Röstegraben was positively supported by construction work on site. The village pond, called Buchborn in the mouth of the village, and its drain were redesigned just like the alleys at the drainage ditch of the pond. The pavement and lighting of the alleys were also renewed.
fauna
Sticklebacks live in the Röstegraben . In the quieter sections of the creek and the village pond are mallards home.
