Railway stations in Thuringia |
The Nordhausen Station (locally as the main station called) is a railway junction in northern Thuringia and the main railway station of the city Nordhausen . It is located south of the city center in the valley of the Zorge .
history
The railroad reached Nordhausen on July 10, 1866 with the opening of the railway line to Halle , which was extended westward to Eichenberg on July 9, 1867 . In 1869, rail lines in the direction of Northeim and Erfurt were added. The narrow-gauge Harzquerbahn to Wernigerode, opened in 1897, completes the railway lines; it begins at Nordhausen Nord station on the north side of the station. There is also a connection to the Nordhausen tram , which connects the train station with most parts of the city.
The prestigious reception building with dining room and waiting rooms was built between 1867 and 1869, and has been expanded or rebuilt over the years. In 1880 the platform roofs and the first underpass to the platforms were built.
In 1994 the station was electrified . The station is also important for east-west freight traffic ; therefore there is a large freight station east of the passenger station .
In 1997/98 extensive reconstruction and renovation work began on the station building and later also on the station forecourt .
