Location of the community of Gärtringen in the district of Böblingen | ||
Gärtringen is a municipality in the Boeblingen district in Baden-Württemberg . The community is on the edge of the Schönbuch between Böblingen and Herrenberg .
geography
Geographical location
The community of Gärtringen lies between the Heckengäu or Schlehengäu and Schönbuch. A small plain extends to the south, which is formed by the Krebsbach, which rises in the neighboring area of Nufringen and flows into the Würm . The extensive forest area of the Schönbuch begins immediately south of Rohrau. In north and west direction the terrain rises evenly towards the Black Forest . The area of the municipality of Gärtringen is relatively poor in its own springs, so that there are only a few permanently water-bearing ditches and brooks (Krebsbach, Keltergraben, Brühl- / Hungergraben) and the water supply is partly secured by Lake Constance water.
Community structure
Gärtringen consists of the two districts Gärtringen and Rohrau. The official name of the Rohrau district is Gärtringen-Rohrau. The two districts form residential districts within the meaning of the Baden-Württemberg municipal code . The district Rohrau also forms a town within the meaning of Baden-Wuerttemberg Municipal Code with directly elected Ortschaftsrat and honorary mayor (since 4 November 2014 Torsten Widmann). The district of Gärtringen includes Gärtringen and the Waldhöfe settlement consisting of resettlers, as well as the abandoned villages (deserts) Edelburg, Hartheim and Wislingen. The Rohrau district only includes the village of Rohrau.
New development areas
In the now largely populated residential area of Kayertäle , a total of 800 residential units are being built on an area of 27 hectares; Another 8 hectare residential area in the north-west of Gärtringen ( Lammtal ) will be developed by autumn 2017 .
The industrial area at the S-Bahn station offers companies willing to settle in commercial space with direct connections to the S-Bahn and the motorway. In the past five years, 800 new jobs have been created in the Gärtringer industrial parks. The municipality has deliberately combined new residential areas and the new commercial area under the motto “Living and working in Gärtringen”. In May 2009 it was decided to develop the Riedbrunnen industrial park on the eastern edge of the town. An extensive branch of the frozen logistics company Nordfrost was set up there in 2011 on an area of 4.6 hectares .
history
The oldest traces of settlement in the area date from the Hallstatt period . Old, possibly Roman, settlement remains can be found at Hardtheimer Brünnele. The place name "Gärtringen" is of Alemannic origin, although the settlement is probably named after a Gartheri. Gärtringen is first mentioned in a document in 1140. Originally the County of Calw, then subordinate to the Count Palatine of Tübingen , the community came to Württemberg in 1382 .
There is evidence of local nobility from the 12th century to 1559. The last documented are the lords of Gärtringen called Harder , who died out with Hans von Gärtringen in 1559 . From the 17th century, representatives of Württemberg honesty owned the formerly noble estates, including from 1610 the Württemberg council and chamber secretary Johann Sattler and from 1640 until today the Hiller family, whose roots lie in Pöttmes near Augsburg and the 1703 to barons Hiller von Garden rings were raised.
With the reorganization of the young Kingdom of Württemberg at the beginning of the 19th century, the old Württemberg Gärtringen remained subordinate to the office that had belonged to it for centuries and, since 1758, the Oberamt Herrenberg .
In 1879 the Gärtringen station of the Württemberg railway was opened. It is located a few hundred meters from the former settlement area.
During the district reform in Württemberg during the Nazi era , Gärtringen became part of the Böblingen district in 1938 . In 1945 Gärtringen fell into the American zone of occupation and thus belonged to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Baden , which was incorporated into the current state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952.
Since the Second World War, the number of inhabitants has multiplied due to the proximity to the industrial locations of Böblingen , Sindelfingen and Stuttgart and the existing rail links. This growth continues to this day, not least due to the connection to the A 81 motorway from the end of the 1970s and the S-Bahn connection that has existed since 1992 in the Stuttgart transport and tariff association .
The Burgstall Edelburg is located 2500 meters northwest of Gärtringen, on the western edge of the Gärtringer valley .

Religions
Gärtringen is traditionally predominantly evangelical (evangelical parishes Gärtringen-Ost and -West as well as Rohrau), although the Catholic parish of St. Michael now has 2,600 members. Due to the influx of citizens of foreign origin in the last few decades, other religions are also represented, but no figures are known.
Incorporations
Rohrau
The town of Rohrau , which was incorporated on September 1, 1971, with around 1,600 inhabitants at the foot of the Schönbuch is historically known for the mining of Rhätsandstein and the sand mill that continued into the 20th century . In the late Middle Ages, Rohrau was shaped by a castle in Schönbuch and a moated castle on today's church square. The old Rohrau church on Kirchplatz had to be demolished in 1974 due to structural damage caused by subsidence and was replaced by the Christ Church on Eisenbergle.
There is little business in Rohrau; the only industrial company is a mineral water bottler. The Krebsbach (Würm) flows through Rohrau .

traffic
Gärtringen can be reached via the federal motorway 81 ( Stuttgart - Singen ). A special feature is that, coming from the south, the exit takes place in the left lane. It came about because the crossing structure was intended to function as a motorway junction (A 81 / A 831 ) when it was built in the 1970s , but the intended ramps were used as a junction.
The Gäubahn connects Gärtringen with the national rail network in the direction of Stuttgart, Singen and Freudenstadt . The S1 line ( Kirchheim (Teck) –Stuttgart– Herrenberg ) of the Stuttgart S-Bahn serves Gärtringer station, usually every half hour in both directions.
Educational institutions / child care
With the Theodor-Heuss - Realschule , the Ludwig-Uhland -Schule (elementary and community school ) and the two elementary schools Peter-Rosegger -Schule and Joseph-Haydn -Schule Rohrau there are four schools in town. There are opportunities for local recreation in the adjacent Schönbuch Nature Park and in the Black Forest.
