Wolfgang Brehm

Wolfgang Brehm (born March 26, 1944 in Gärtringen ; † January 9, 2017 in Bayreuth ) was a German legal scholar and professor at the University of Bayreuth .

Live and act

From 1964, Brehm studied law at the Universities of Tübingen and Marburg . In 1968 he passed his first state examination in law and then completed his legal clerkship. After the Second State Exam in Baden-Wuerttemberg in 1972, he was in 1973 by the University of Tubingen with that of Horst Schroeder supervised criminal signature "to dogmatism of abstract endangerment offense" Dr. iur. PhD. Then Brehm worked as a lawyer in Heilbronn. At the same time he worked as a research assistant for Wolfgang Münzberg at the University of Tübingen. Under his supervision, Brehm completed his habilitation in 1980 with the work "The binding of the judge to the party presentation and the limits of free negotiation evaluation" and received the venia legendi for the subjects civil law and procedural law.

From 1981 Brehm held a professorship for civil law, civil procedural law and methodology at the University of Heidelberg . In 1985 he moved to the full professorship for civil law, in particular procedural, foreclosure and bankruptcy law at the University of Bayreuth , which he held until his retirement in 2008. After German reunification , he also taught a few semesters at the University of Leipzig .

Brehm's research focus was primarily on civil and criminal procedural law. He also devoted himself to comparative law, in particular the comparison with Austrian procedural law. In addition, teaching was very important to him; he has authored numerous civil law and civil litigation textbooks and learning programs.
