history
antiquity
Steinenbronn belongs to an old settlement area in the wider central Neckar area. Archaeological finds indicate a dense settlement since the Younger Stone Age around 2,500 BC. Chr. Celtic settlements by the Helvetii tribe emerged from around 450 BC. The part of a stele found in Steinenbronn , the replica of which is placed in front of the town hall, is considered a Celtic cultural monument . The original is in the Württemberg State Museum in Stuttgart . After the Helvetii withdrew to what is now Switzerland, Roman , Alemannic and Frankish settlers followed.
middle Ages
The first written mention of Steinenbronn comes from the year 1348. Steinenbronn had been the rulership of the Count Palatine of Tübingen since the early Middle Ages , but was sold to the Counts of Württemberg in 1347 because of the impoverishment of the Count Palatine along with the entire Schönbuch Forest. Steinenbronn thus belonged to the ancestral home of the House of Württemberg . In 1434 Count Ludwig I of Württemberg assigned 13 communities to the Boeblingen office, including Steinenbronn, his wife Mechthild , Countess Palatine near the Rhine, as Wittum . In 1483 his son, Count Eberhard im Bart , did the same and bequeathed his wife, Margravine Barbara Gonzaga of Mantua, also Steinenbronn with other communities than Wittum.
Steinenbronn was initially assigned to the Böblingen Office and from 1446 to the Stuttgart Office.
Early modern age
The Thirty Years' War (1618–1648) brought great hardship to the Steinenbronnern and led to the depopulation of the community. In 1634 the community had 550 inhabitants, in 1639 only 85 remained. In the period that followed, the distress continued, due to long periods of war such as the Wars of Succession , incursions and marches by French troops from 1672 to 1763 and later by the Napoleonic Wars of 1792 to 1815. The growing population often had to endure famine due to bad weather and bad harvests. In 1792 the introduction of the new church hymn book failed in Steinenbronn due to the poverty of the population. Many citizens escaped hunger and misery by emigrating.
When the young Kingdom of Württemberg was reorganized at the beginning of the 19th century, the old Württemberg district of Steinenbronn remained assigned to the Stuttgart District Office.
20th and 21st centuries
Only with industrialization at the beginning of the 20th century did the people of Steinenbronn find new work, initially through heavy building activity in Stuttgart and later in growing industry. Steinenbronn's population grew from 935 in 1900 to 1833 at the end of World War II .
The administrative reform during the Nazi era in Württemberg led to the dissolution of the Stuttgart District Office in 1938. Since then, Steinenbronn has been part of the Böblingen district. Economically and culturally, however, the relationship via the Filder area to Stuttgart dominates up to the present . With the Böblingen district, Steinenbronn belongs to the Stuttgart region .
In 1945 Steinenbronn fell into the American occupation zone and thus belonged to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Baden . With the establishment of Baden-Wuerttemberg , which rose in 1952 in what is now the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg.
The reconstruction in the post-war period and the development in automotive and mechanical engineering as well as the emerging electronic data processing created new jobs in the Stuttgart region. The population of Steinenbronn rose to approx. 6100 in 2011.
