Hetty Plumacher

Hedwig Mathilde Plümacher , married Hedwig Mathilde Lipp (born December 3, 1919 in Solingen ; † June 3, 2005 in Steinenbronn ) was a German opera singer ( mezzo-soprano and alto ).

Life

Hetty Plümacher, officially Hedwig Matilde Lipp born. Plümacher, studied singing in Cologne. After her first engagement in Oslo in 1942, she was appointed to the ensemble of the Württemberg State Opera in Stuttgart from 1946 to 1976 . She often appeared in Munich and Vienna, but gradually also in guest appearances at all major European opera houses. She also participated in the Salzburg (1963–1965) and Bayreuth (1953–1957) festivals and at the 1957 Schwetzingen Festival .

Her main roles were initially in operas by Mozart and Richard Strauss, later she also played dramatic roles in Wagner operas. She was also a sought-after concert soloist for the Passions by Johann Sebastian Bach , the oratorios by Handel and Mendelssohn and the Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi .

After leaving the stage, she taught as a professor at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and at the Stuttgart University of Music .

Half a year after her 85th birthday, the chamber singer Hetty Plümacher died on June 3, 2005 at her long-term residence in Steinenbronn. Her grave is in Dettenhausen .
