Hilde Güden (born September 15, 1917 in Vienna , † September 17, 1988 in Klosterneuburg , Lower Austria ) was an Austrian coloratura soprano and chamber singer specializing in lyric soprano .

Life

Güden made his debut at the Vienna Volksoper in 1937 , in Zurich in 1938 and at the Vienna State Opera in 1939 . In 1941 she was engaged by Clemens Krauss at the Munich State Opera ; however, she left Germany in 1942 because she was of Jewish origin to sing in Rome and Florence . From 1946 to 1973 she was again a member of the Vienna State Opera. In 1951 she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, to whose permanent ensemble she was also a member until 1965. At the inauguration of the Great Festival Hall in Salzburg with Der Rosenkavalier in 1960 she sang Sophie.

She was considered one of the best Mozart and Strauss singers of her time and was also a member of the Vienna Mozart Ensemble . Hilde Güden was with the entrepreneur Dr. Robert Dannemann married. She was buried in the forest cemetery in Munich .
