Marianne Rosenberg (* 10. March 1955 in Berlin-Lankwitz ) is a German pop - and pop singer and songwriter . She was particularly successful in the 1970s with titles like He belongs to me and Marleen .

Life

Marianne Rosenberg is the third of seven children of Otto Rosenberg , a Sinto and survivor of the genocide of the European Roma and Sinti ( Porajmos ) and a longstanding board member of the Central Council of German Sinti and Roma . She grew up in a family of artists. Her sister Petra Rosenberg is the chairwoman of the regional association of German Sinti and Roma Berlin-Brandenburg. Furthermore, Marianne and Petra Rosenberg are cousins of Randolph Rose .

At the age of fourteen, Rosenberg won a talent competition in the Romanisches Café in the Europa-Center . She then recorded her first record, Mr. Paul McCartney , which became her first hit in 1970. With her other titles Stranger Man (1971), Every Road Has an End (1972), He Belongs to Me (1975) and Marleen (1976) her career peaked in the 1970s. She had numerous appearances on radio and television (including several times in the ZDF hit parade ) and became one of the most successful pop stars of the decade.

In 1975 Rosenberg took part in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time, but only placed 10th with her song He belongs to me . Nevertheless, the song became a hit. In 1976 and 1977 she received the bronze Bravo Otto from the youth magazine Bravo . In 1976 she sang Tout peut arriver au cinéma (songs of the night) in the Luxembourg preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest . But she failed because of her compatriot Jürgen Marcus , who drove for Luxembourg to the final in The Hague. The German preliminary decision in 1978, in which Marianne Rosenberg reached number 7 with No, I won't cry , was only broadcast on the radio and not on television. In 1980 she tried again in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest . Her title I will be there when there is a storm only reached number 12. It was not much better for her in the German preliminary decision in 1982 , when she reached number 8 with blue jeans children .

She then broke with the hit scene for years, worked in films and recorded records with representatives of what was then Neue Deutsche Welle , especially with Extrabreit . The song Duo Infernal (Return of the Fantastic Five) , recorded with this band, is particularly noticeable due to its punk character. In order to break out of the beaten track, she changed her demeanor in the late 1980s, gave herself a new image with flashy stage appearances and also took a stand on political issues. She was also successful with her new songs and became an icon of the gay movement .

In 1988, a remix of her big hit He belongs to me was released as a single and once again drew attention to the singer through high levels of airplay . In 1989 she sang the song I Need Your Love Tonight for the soundtrack of the TV series Rivals of the Racetrack , produced by Dieter Bohlen , who also wrote lyrics and music, and had a surprise success with it, so that the song was among the top 60 place. In 1989 she released the album Uns burns the night and had a hit with the first single I think of you . The album was created in collaboration with the producer Harald Steinhauer , who also took over the production of her next albums And You Can't Do Anything About It and Feuerrosen took over the production.

In 1994 she recorded another song in English with Dieter Bohlen. Anywhere I Lay My Head appeared on the soundtrack for the ZDF series Die Stadtindianer , but was not released as a single. In 1996 she took part in a memorial concert for Rio Reiser . After a number of albums that were released in the course of the nineties, including the double CD 5 Days & 5 Nights sung live in the studio , she released her album Luna in 1998 , with mostly self-composed songs and lyrics by her friend Marianne Enzensberger . Luna was re-released a year later, enriched with a radio- hit cover version of Cher hit Strong Enough . This was followed by the album Heavenly , which sold worse than preliminary reviews suggested. It was produced by Alex Christensen , who became known in the techno genre as with U 96 “Das Boot”.

In 2000 the artist refused to appear together with her father on a television show with the indignant words: "They want Rosenberg-Schlager garnished with a pinch of Auschwitz [...] That is disrespect to my father." In 2004 she played under the title Forever like today their big hits and some new tracks in completely new arrangements. The album reached the top 20 of the German album charts, the singles reached the top 100. This was followed by a tour of the record. At the same time, she appeared in a number of German cities with a chanson and song program that arose out of the collaboration with Christian Schodos in 2003 and which the two premiered at the time under the title Cocktails for two in the Berlin bar of every reason .

In September 2006 Rosenberg published her autobiography Kokolores . Live performances with the jazz concept followed in September and October 2006. The audio book accompanying the biography includes four pieces of music as bonuses. The Goethe-Institut lists her autobiography in four reviews selected on the genre of Sinti and Roma literature together with the Sintizas Philomena Franz and Dotschy Reinhardt .

In March 2008 the chanson and jazz album I'm a Woman was released . On October 17th, 2008 she took part in a Nico tribute concert. At the Volksbühne Berlin she sang three songs in honor of the late German singer, including Femme Fatale from The Velvet Underground and My Funny Valentine .

In 2009, Marianne Rosenberg spoke and sang the role of Mama Odie in the Disney cartoon Kiss the Frog . At the end of February 2011 she released a new album with 13 tracks under the name Regenrhythmus . In addition, the single Die Ballade by Wolfgang and Brigitte by the Berlin band Wir sind Helden was released in August 2011 , which also includes a version of the song with Rosenberg as the singer. Rosenberg sat on the jury of the eleventh season of Germany is looking for the superstar . She had previously appeared as a sharp critic of the casting shows. She justified her changed view by saying that she had been credibly assured that from now on “talents will get an honest chance”.

Together with producer Dirk Riegner , Rosenberg founded the band Schattenherz . The album Das Leben ist schön was released in October 2013. On the 50th stage anniversary in 2020, their next album, In the Name of Love, was released . The 12 songs were created u. a. in collaboration with her son Max. Rosenberg's long-time partner is the journalist and politician Michael Klöckner .

Others

According to his own statement, Rosenberg had a three-year love affair with the presenter Ilja Richter at the end of the 1970s , both of which however, at the insistence of Rosenberg's record company, kept them a secret. She herself later said about this time: "We even wanted to get married and start a family."
