Dirk Riegner
Dirk Riegner is a German musician , songwriter and music producer .
Life
Riegner learned his first musical instrument at the age of five and now plays guitar, piano and trumpet. In his youth he was drawn to the Ruhr area , where he graduated from high school . After graduating from high school, Riegner studied law . Over the years the enthusiasm for rock music decreased more and more. He moved to Cologne and from then on devoted himself to electronic music . His first band was called BSOne.
Musical career
As a solo artist
In 1999 Riegner released the single Don't Mean a Thing under the pseudonym Space Jazz Dub Men . Since 2014 he has been traveling solo under the pseudonym Caleidoscop . Riegner himself assigns the project's music to the genres of electro-pop , new romantic and synth-pop .
With bands
Secret Discovery (since 1997)
Riegner joined the Bochum rock band Secret Discovery as a keyboardist in 1997 . With them he recorded a total of four studio albums until 1999 before the band split up. A compilation followed , the final tour with a live album and the separation of the band. In 2002 the band got together again and performed as a support act for Oomph! , Tiamat and Nightwish . The last two studio albums were released in 2004 and 2006. After the release of the last studio album, Alternate , a tour with Unheilig followed . It was not until 2014 that the band released a sound carrier again, the single Auf Wiedersehen (In the direction of victory) .
Alice 2 (2001)
During Secret Discovery's band break, Riegner founded the alternative rock duo Alice 2 together with the founding member of Secret Discovery, Kai Hoffmann . From this collaboration the studio album Brave New World emerged, as well as the singles It's a Crime and Don't Rush . Hoffmann was the singer and guitarist, and Rieger was the keyboardist. Both composed the songs together, they were produced by Riegner.
Shadowheart (since 2013)
In 2013 Riegner founded the pop duo Schattenherz together with the German pop singer Marianne Rosenberg . Rosenberg acts as the singer of the duo and Riegner as the keyboard player, together they write all the songs on their own and Riegner produces the pieces at the same time. The first single Alles klingt von dir was released on September 13, 2013. The debut album Das Leben ist schön followed a month later on October 18, 2013 and reached position 94 on the official German album charts .
As a writer and producer
Riegner works on almost all songs in which he is involved as a composer or producer. In the 90s he composed and produced almost exclusively songs in which he was also musically involved. This has not been the case since the 2000s. Riegner did his first background work in 2000, as a programmer for the Guano Apes album Don't Give Me Names . In 2003 he also worked on the Guano Apes album Walking on a Thin Line . Both albums reached position one in the German album charts and were awarded gold . This was followed by collaborations with the DSDS winner Elli Erl and Xandria . With the singer Rya and the band In Strict Confidence worked on two albums. In 2011 he worked on the 19th studio album Rain rhythm of Marianne Rosenberg with, which later became the common Duo Schattenherz emerged. In the last few years he worked closely with Peter Heppner . He wrote and co-produced both of the top 10 albums solo and My Heart of Stone . He went on tour with him five times. In 2018 Riegner contributed again to the two new Heppner recordings Confessions & Doubts and TanzZwang Lieder.
