history

Altdorf 1683, forest inventory book by Andreas Kieser

Until the 19th century

Altdorf was in 1204 in a document from Pope Innocent III. first mentioned as Alcdorf . At that time the village belonged to the Palatine County of Tübingen , but it came to the Bebenhausen Monastery through donations and purchases . At the end of the 14th century, the monastery was Kirchherr and almost the sole landlord of Altdorf. During the Reformation, after the abolition of the monastery convent by the Duke of Württemberg , Altdorf also became Protestant and was now subordinate to the Württemberg monastery in Bebenhausen. When the new administrative structure was implemented in the Kingdom of Württemberg , which was founded in 1806 , Altdorf was assigned to the Upper Office of Böblingen in 1807 .

In 1850 Altdorf had 1154 Protestant and one Catholic residents, who lived and worked in 169 main and 74 auxiliary buildings.

20th century

During the district reform in Württemberg during the Nazi era , Altdorf came to the Böblingen district in 1938.

In the course of the Second World War , especially in October 1943, large parts of Altdorf were bombed. The reason for this was the fog that prevailed when the attackers approached. This was mistaken for artificial fog to disguise the ammunition depot and the Böblingen airfield .

In 1945 Altdorf became part of the American zone of occupation and thus belonged to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Baden , which was incorporated into the current state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952.

coat of arms

Blazon : "Above a black shield base, inside a worm-like curved silver wavy band, in gold a red-tongued black wolf's body."

The coat of arms was taken from the noble family of the Guelphs , which Altdorf belonged to. The wavy band represents the Würm (brook), which flows through Altdorf and also rises in the Altdorf district.

Town twinning

After the Second World War , town twinning in Europe was a way of enabling understanding between people from different nations in direct contact and thus stabilizing peace. In this spirit, the partnership with Nanteuil-le-Haudouin ( Oise , France ) was concluded in 1959 .

Culture and sights

Altdorf is the seat of the Academy for Early Music in Baden-Württemberg e. V.

In the old schoolhouse, which was converted into a community center in 2010, 2011 and 2012 with grants from the state, a voluntary library, the "BiB - Library in the community center", was built. In future events in the Bürgersaal with the associated foyer and kitchen will enrich the cultural life in Altdorf. But it should also be available to interested private individuals or companies for their events.

Buildings

The town center is formed by the trio of town hall, old schoolhouse and church. Only the foundation walls of the town hall remained after the Second World War . The old school house was converted into a community center. The Protestant St. Blasius Church is a still preserved medieval fortified church . Right next to the church is the rectory built on the foundations of Altdorf Castle; this building also served as a place of refuge in the late Middle Ages.

Regular events

Throughout the year, numerous festivals shape village life. In addition to the church events, the Bach Festival takes place every year in July, followed by a spring jump at the weir in the Würm.
