Wilhelm Gmelin (clergyman)
Wilhelm Gmelin (born October 10, 1573 in Gärtringen , † November 1, 1635 in Böblingen ) was a German Lutheran clergyman .
Life
Wilhelm Gmelin was born as the son of the pastor of the same name in Gärtringen. In 1599 he was employed as a deacon in Calw , where he stayed for seven years. He then became a preceptor at the Bebenhausen monastery and scholarch of the Latin and German country schools in upper Baden-Württemberg. He held both positions until 1630, when he was expelled by the edict of restitution . In the following year he took over the pastor's position in Kirchentellinsfurt and also became a senior at Reutlingen . Böblingen appointed him general superintendent in 1634 . The city was robbed during the Nördlinger battle ; Gmelin also suffered from it, but continued to hold his pastorate. After all, many people in the area died of the epidemics that followed the looting and devastation , including Gmelin on November 1, 1635 as one of the last epidemic victims in the city.
His children were Johann Wilhelm Gmelin , Joseph Gmelin , Samuel Gmelin and Jeremias Gmelin .
