history

Pigeon tower in Meisdorfer Hof

Meisdorf was first mentioned in 1184 (according to other information 1219) as "Meystorp" or "Meyßtorp". The lords of the Falkenstein castle owned the place for a long time. Characteristic for the place are fortified farms, z. B. the Wendenburgischer Hof and the Möhringsche Hof. Historically, there are seven ring courtyards (see also Vierseithof ).

In the Selketal there were already some mills in early times, of which the water mill, built in 1512 and owned by the Bischof family since 1932, is still in operation today.

After the Falkensteiners, the Asseburgers came into possession of the Falkenstein Castle; At the end of the 18th century they built a castle on the outskirts of Meisdorf, to which it is connected by an avenue. The complex, which is used today as the Parkhotel Schloss Meisdorf , is surrounded by a park with native and exotic trees. There is also the Asseburg hereditary burial and the Meisdorf war memorial .

In the 19th century, Meisdorf received a rail connection to the now closed Frose – Quedlinburg line . Today Meisdorf is connected by the PlusBus 240 (Quedlinburg – Aschersleben) of the Harz transport company .

On January 1, 2002, it merged with the neighboring communities of Ermsleben , Endorf, Neuplatendorf, Pansfelde, Reinstedt and Wieserode to form the town of Falkenstein / Harz, which is named after Falkenstein Castle .

Meisdorf village church

Meisdorf patronage church

The church in the middle of Meisdorf, whose origins are believed to be in the 14th century, deserves special attention. From the end of the 15th century until 1945 it served the von der Asseburg family as a patronage church, which is reminiscent of a count's lodge that is still in existence today.

The church in Meisdorf received its present form mainly through a renovation completed in 1686, during which the destruction caused by the Thirty Years' War was removed.

The baroque furnishings with a multi-storey high altar, the baptismal angel and an inlaid pulpit from 1696 with a pulpit clock are well worth seeing . The parapets of the patron's box and the lower of the two circumferential galleries are painted with pictures that mostly depict stations in the life of Jesus.

The Friends' Association for the Preservation of the Church of Meisdorf e. V. tries to carry out urgently necessary repair work and conducts tours, choir and organ concerts and changing exhibitions in the church.

The Meisdorf Church is popular as a baptism and wedding church, although civil weddings can take place in Meisdorf Castle.
