Special events

Centennial flood on April 13, 1994

For months in 1994 it had rained twice as much as usual. A renewed onset of winter and the low pressure area “Pallas”, which melted the snow quickly, meant that the dam of the soil system overflowed for the first time in its history . Due to the inflow of dozens of streams in the catchment area of the Selke, the level swelled a hundredfold in a short time. Reinstedt and the neighboring towns sank in the floods. The district of Aschersleben declared the catastrophe “ flood of the century ”. Plans by the State Office for Flood Protection provide for the construction of a twelve to 15 meter high dam southwest of Meisdorf .

Regular events

Pentecost: local festival with trench fish

Trench fishing, first mentioned in a document in 1563, traditionally takes place every year on Whit Monday. Eleven men with top hats on their heads, adorned with a peony and a brightly colored bandana, try - sliding on their knees and whatever the weather - to catch brown trout that were previously released in the Mühlgraben with their hands. Whoever pulls the largest specimen ashore after 700 m will be named Fish King for one year.

Similar to trench fishing, “arboriculture” has a long tradition on Pentecost Saturday. An arbor is built from branches and tree trunks in front of the “Prinz von Anhalt” bar. On Whit Monday the parade then moves through the place, which takes a break in front of the door of the club members and serenades them.

Harz Agricultural Festival

Every year since 1998, the Harz Agricultural Festival has been held in Reinstedt on the last Sunday in June. There was u. a. Animal breeding competitions with an annual changing focus and an exhibition on modern and historical harvesting technology. Direct marketers offered their products at a farmers 'market and the state farmers' association provided information about prospects in green professions. A large show program always rounded off the event. Big and small animals could be seen. 10,000 visitors were counted annually. The patron was the Minister for Agriculture and Environment of Saxony-Anhalt. In 2020, the event had to be canceled for the first time in 22 years due to the corona pandemic . At the beginning of July 2020 it became known that this traditional event will no longer take place in Reinstedt in the future.
