The Jewish cemetery Ballenstedt is a cemetery in the town of Ballenstedt in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt . It is a protected cultural monument .

The Jewish cemetery is at the exit of the village on the road to Hoym . The gravestones that were preserved were placed on the surrounding wall . A memorial stone in the cemetery is to commemorate the Jewish victims of the Shoah . The entrance gate bears a Star of David .

history

The cemetery was laid out around 1790. It survived the Nazi era undamaged, but fell into disrepair after 1945. It has been a memorial site since the 1980s. A memorial stone was placed in the middle of the cemetery. In 1997 the cemetery was reconstructed.
