The Friedrichshohenberg is a nature reserve in the town of Falkenstein / Harz in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0143 is 118.5  hectares in size. It is completely surrounded by the "Harz und Vorländer" conservation area. The area has been under protection since 1994 (date of regulation: September 21, 1994). The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Harz district.

The nature reserve is located east of the Falkensteiner district of Meisdorf and west of the districts of Endorf and Neuplatendorf in the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt nature reserve . It places parts of the Friedrichshohenberg with its north-facing slopes sloping down towards the Harz foreland and a section of the Lieth valley with the adjacent slopes under protection. In the nature reserve there are large areas of oak and hornbeam forests with numerous beeches . The forests in the summit area of ​​the Friedrichshohenberg partly have low and middle forest character. Occasionally there are also coniferous forests interspersed with deciduous trees. In the south-western area of ​​the protected area and along the Liethe there is a valuable alder forest. The herb layer of the deciduous forests is u. a. of liverwort , Turkish lily and large star umbel , which reaches its northern limit of distribution here , that of the Bruchwald u. a. formed by yellow monkshood , autumn croissants , spotted orchid and march cups .

There are several abandoned quarries in the north of the nature reserve . Bushy orchards and arable land are included in the nature reserve . In the transition to the Friedrichshohenberg upstream arable land to the north, there are narrow strips of dry and semi-arid grassland with large ormint , Färbermeier , heather carnation , small rattling pot , two-leaved forest hyacinth , centaury , field wreath and autumn rootwort .

The nature reserve is home to a species-rich avifauna , including red kite , sparrowhawk , hawk , honey buzzard , tree falcon , long- eared owl , various woodpeckers , stock dove , reversible neck , red- backed moth , mistletoe , tailed tit , bullfinch , hawfinch and red crossbill . Amphibians are u. a. by fire salamander , mountain , thread , pond and great crested newt , common toad , midwife toad and frog , reptile by fence and forest lizard , slow worm , creepers and grass snake represented. Furthermore, insect well represented in the protected area, including the ground beetles Leather ground beetle , Carabus nemoralis and Carabus Problematicus and butterflies Kaisermantel and Poplar Admiral .
