The Herrenberg and Vorberg im Huy is a nature reserve in the unified municipality of Huy and the city of Halberstadt in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0031 is 234.84  hectares . It is almost entirely part of the FFH and EU bird sanctuary "Huy north Halberstadt" and is located entirely within the conservation area "Huy". It initially consisted of the two nature reserves "Herrenberg" and "Vorberg im Huy", which have been under protection since May 1, 1961. Both protected areas were merged in 1985. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Harz district.

The nature reserve is located northwest of Halberstadt in the Huy . It places a forest area on red sandstone in the north and shell limestone in the south under protection.

The north in the area of ​​Herrenberg is primarily characterized by woodruff beech forest. Here falter especially beech , sessile oak , wild cherry , wild service tree and hornbeam . In the herb layer you can find nodding pearl grass , wood twigs , sanicle , spotted lungwort , forest equestrian grass and woodruff . Sessile oak and hornbeam forest join to the south . Here are Bergsegge and forest millet characteristic plants of the herbaceous layer.

The south of the protected area in the area of ​​the foothills is formed at the foot of the slope by oak forests with sessile oak and winter linden . On the central slope, the hornbeam joins the forest community. An oak-hornbeam forest with field maple grows on the hilltop . The herb layer in the area of ​​the foot of the slope is characterized by forest equestrian grass, lily of the valley and forest ball grass . In the area of ​​the central slope u. a. Privet , white cinquefoil and blood-red cranesbill form the herb layer. On the top, meadow cowslip , black pea and blue-red stone seeds are predominant. Also suitable Diptam , Brachypodium pinnatum , Big Brown Elle , Inula hirta , garden salsify , branchy grass lily , Yellow dental comfort and nude stem schwertlilie ago.

In the north of the foothill, pings formed by limestone mining can be found. Orchids have settled here in places that are still open , including purple orchid , flywort and bee garlic , greenish forest hyacinth and yellow lady's slipper . Furthermore, here u. a. Rispied grass lily , blood-red cranesbill , mountain hair strand , swallowweed , pigeon skabios , large-flowered brown elk, rough elephant and broad-leaved laser herb can be found. Regular decussing measures are necessary to keep the meadow areas open.

There is also an old orchard meadow in the nature reserve , the old trees of which offer cave breeders a suitable habitat. So here are z. B. reversible necks , red-backed shrike and gray shrike can be found. Also hornets and various bats live here. In the meadow grow u. a. Large two-leaf , mosquito-handelwort , real centaury and purple orchid. Even the forest is habitat for numerous species of birds , including red kites , woodcock , common raven , turtle dove , Central and gray-headed woodpecker .
