The Harsleben Mountains and Steinholz is a 251  hectare nature reserve (license number NSG 0062) in the municipality of Harsleben and the cities of Quedlinburg and Thale in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt .

It is completely part of the approximately 261 hectare FFH area "Harsleben Mountains and Steinholz northwest of Quendlinburg" and is surrounded by the "Harz und Vorländer" conservation area. The area has been under protection since 1967 (date of regulation: September 11, 1967). The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Harz district. As natural monuments can be found, among other things, the stone wood-Linden and near the stone wood waiting .

The nature reserve is located south of Halberstadt and northwest of Quedlinburg in the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park . It protects a dry forest area and dry, semi-dry and poor grassland on the Harsleben mountains, a long ridge in the northern Harz foreland. The forest areas are mainly occupied by near-natural oak, beech and oak forests. In addition, there are also non-natural coniferous forests . The open areas are occupied by dry and poor grassland. Heath also grows on sandy locations . Here are u. a. Common heather , large-flowered brown elk , yellow scabies , pinnate twigs , medium quiver grass , hawkweed , centaury , eyebright, thyme, round-leaved bellflower , hare puff and hare earling . In the nature reserve, which is largely surrounded by agricultural land , there are several small arable land .

The breeding birds in the nature reserve include eagle owls , tree hawks , sparrowhawks , red-backed whales , wheatears , barnacles , oriole , gray bunting and partridge . Amphibians and reptiles are u. a. represented by crested newt , sand lizard and smooth snake . Various bats such as pug bat , Bechstein's bat and great mouse-eared bat as well as numerous butterflies are also native to the nature reserve . Remarkable species are also spur-leaf cicada, stone walkers , tube spiders and the snails Chondrula tridens ( three-toothed wolverine ) and Cecilioides acicula ( blind snail ).
