The Clusberg is a nature reserve in the town of Falkenstein / Harz in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt .

General

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0144 is around 30  hectares in size. The nature reserve, which completely from the conservation area surrounded "resin and flood plains," is since 1994 under protection (date of the Regulation: September 21, 1994). The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Harz district.

The nature reserve is located east of the Falkensteiner district of Pansfelde on the edge of the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt nature reserve . It protects the Clusberg, its north and west exposed slopes to the Ellrichstal and the slopes of the Clusberg, which are mainly exposed to the south to the Schwennecke valley, as well as a mountain adjoining it to the east, including a short section of the Schwennecke valley.

The nature reserve is characterized in the west by forest communities and grassland , in the east predominantly by grassland. An old and ecologically valuable hornbeam slope forest with elms and sessile oaks grows on the southeast slope of the Clusberg . The herb layer is of narrow-woodrush, Poa nemoralis , lily of the valley , Schlängelschmiele , Hain chickweed , Goldnessel and reed grass formed. The green hellebore also occurs here . There are significant stocks of the stinking hellebore . On the south and south-west slopes there is a light and species-rich sessile oak forest with service tree and Scots pine and on the lower slope there is also hornbeam and winter linden . The herb layer here is made up of real fescue , nodding catchfly , ebony marguerite , pale hawkweed and round-leaved bellflower . There is also dye gorse . The northern slope of the Clusberg was primarily afforested with spruce and is in a natural state. The part of the northern slope south of the Schwennecke included in the nature reserve is dominated by red beech and hornbeam. Liverworts , devil's claws and lilies of the valley are found in the herb layer .

The plateau areas as well as parts of the slope areas are taken up by mountain meadows that are cultivated in a natural way. Here are u. a. You can find red ostrich grass , real bedstraw , round-leaved bellflower, common piglet and small hawkweed . Crested grass and red clover grow on grazed areas . In the valley of Schwenningen corner dominate Kohl thistle , shown in Bach nearby Mädesüß- marsh cranesbill - shore Staudenfluren pass. The Schwennecke is accompanied by black alder .

There is a meadow orchard in the east of the protected area . Here come u. a. Heidenelke , Kleine Bibernelle , Dreizahn , Mitteles Zittergras and Kleiner Wiesenknopf .

The nature reserve is the habitat for various birds , including black woodpecker and stock dove, as well as red backed killer and blackcap . Also wildcat and smooth snake are here at home, as well as various bats , including lesser noctule , Serotine , brown long-eared and pipistrelle .

In the southern slope of the Clusberg there is an old quarry , now a geotope . South of the mountain there is a rest area for hikers, which is included as no. 205 in the system of stamping points of the Harz hiking pin. In the northeast, the nature reserve borders mainly on wooded areas, otherwise grassland predominates.
