The Bockberg nature reserve is a nature reserve on the Bockberg near Königshütte in the area of the town of Oberharz am Brocken in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt . In the nature reserve, due to the subsoil of limestone and the slope inclination, there are limestone grasslands , in which rare animals and plants such as blood cranesbill and broad-leaved laser herb can be found. On the mountain sites, mountain meadows are predominant, while the smaller sections of the NSG on flowing waters are dominated by wet meadows .
history
The clearing of the areas began in the 12th century, exposed locations may have been free of forests before then. Due to the different site conditions and uses, small-scale, species-rich meadows developed. From the 1960s onwards, the area began to be used more intensively for agriculture (ie mowing several times a year and applying fertilizer ), except for steep slopes, which led to the impoverishment of species. In order to stop this intensive use and to prevent reforestation, the nature reserve was established on September 11, 1967. Nowadays the slopes are mowed and sheep grazed once a year. The aim of nature conservation is to preserve the mountain meadows, field trees , lime grasslands, herbaceous vegetation and succession areas .
