The Kleine Fallstein is a nature reserve in the town of Osterwieck in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0028 is 45.86  hectares . It is completely from the conservation area surrounded "forest area of Fallstein" and part of the FFH area "Fallstein area north Osterwieck". The area has been under protection since May 1, 1961. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Harz district.

The nature reserve is located northwest of Osterwieck on the western edge of the Großer Fallstein . It protects a wooded hillside location that is mainly exposed to the southwest and sloping down towards the Ilse valley and the ridge in the east of the Kleiner Fallstein. In addition, a depression to the Rhönsbach exposed to the north is included in the nature reserve.

The forests in the nature reserve are shaped by a grove-beech forest in the west, which merges into a sessile oak-hornbeam forest to the east . The herb layer is u. a. characterized by whitish grove rims , lily of the valley and grove bluegrass in the west and spring flat pea and common golden nettle in the east. On a steep south-west slope there is a karst beech forest with small-leaved sitters and white forest birds in the herb layer. Pedunculate oak and common ash grow in the valley floor . Here, hygrophilic species such as lungwort , spotted arum , hollow lark spur and high cowslip predominate in the herb layer .

To the south, the nature reserve is bounded by a field maple oak forest. Here grow in the herb layer u. a. Single-flowered pearl grass , cowslip , black flat pea , purple orchid , helmet orchid , white forest bird and long-leaved forest bird .

The nature reserve is u. a. Habitat for red kite , buzzard and sparrowhawk , which also breed here.

The forest area is almost completely surrounded by agricultural land .
