The whitish or white grove ( Luzula luzuloides , syn .: Luzula albida ) is a species of the rush family (Juncaceae).

description

This plant, one of the sweet grass-like plants, stands out for its whitish or reddish flowers, which, however, are not snow-white like the snow-white grove ( Luzula nivea ). The plant reaches heights of 30 to 70 centimeters. The leaves are three to four, exceptionally up to six millimeters wide and closely ciliate. The spread, two to four millimeters long flowers are in two- to eight-flowered, loosely composed clusters with whitish, yellowish or reddish husks .

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 12, also for Luzula luzuloides subsp. rubella .

Systematics

One can distinguish the following subspecies:

  • Common whitish grove ( Luzula luzuloides subsp. Luzuloides , syn .: Luzula albida (Hoffm.) DC. Or Luzula nivea subsp. Albida (Hoffm.) Bonnier & Layens ): It is common in forests in Europe.
  • Reddened luzula luzuloides ( Luzula luzuloides subsp. Rubella (Mert & WDJ Koch) Holub. , Syn .: Luzula luzuloides . Subsp cuprina . (Asch & Graebn) Chrtek & Krisa. , Luzula luzuloides . Var erythranthema . Wallr ) has reddish flower husks and deviating location requirements. It grows in dwarf shrub scrub and in high grasslands in the Alps and higher mountain ranges in Central and Southern Europe. It thrives in societies of the Calamagrostion association or the Nardo-Callunetea class. In the Allgäu Alps, it rises from 1300 to 2200 meters above sea level.

ecology

The whitish grove is a penumbra to shadow plant , especially in mountain forests. It reaches 1,850 meters above sea level in the Alps. The whitish grove tolerates large fluctuations in temperature and humidity in the turn of the day and year. The hemicryptophyte overwinters with buds on or just below the surface of the earth. Flowering time is from June to July, the distribution takes place by Myrmecochory .

Occurrence

The Whitish Hainsimse inhabits large parts of Europe, especially Central Europe and southern Northern Europe, plus the Carpathians and the Balkans . In North America it is a neophyte. In Germany it is widespread, but rarely or absent in the Upper Rhine Plain and in the North German Lowlands .

Luzula luzuloides subsp. luzuloides occurs socially in species-poor beech forests or beech-oak forests. It lives in lime-free, moderately fresh, relatively nutrient-poor, acidic to moderately acidic, musty humic and medium-sized, stony-sandy loam soils . It is named for the Hainsimsen beech forest . But it also occurs in societies of the associations Carpinion, Quercion roboris or in the Luzulo-Abietum.
