description

The nature reserve located in the Harz district , south of the " Upper Selketal " nature reserve, has a size of 63.95 hectares. It was placed under protection in the GDR on March 30, 1961 . In addition to the mountain ridges framed by two of the Selke source streams, the area also includes a meadow valley. The protection goal is the preservation of typical forest communities in the area of the Lower Harz plateau, especially the Hainsimsen - and the woodruff - beech forests , the alder forests and the high-lying sessile oak forests .

Clay and silica slate with diabase interlocking form the subsoil of the area. As a result of Rotliegend volcanism, there is an approximately north-south running rock dike in the eastern part of the nature reserve. In the area of the fracture and fault tectonics, which runs from east to west, water escapes in numerous places in spring. Large parts of the meadows of the nature reserve are regularly flooded.

Flora and fauna

The beech forests that occupy large parts of the area are characteristic of the NSG Albrechtshaus. The hurricane Quimburga in 1972 left them with great damage, so that old stocks were only preserved on the south and east edges. New beech forests are developing on the storm thrown areas, but these are interspersed with other tree species. Woodruff beech forest , montane expression, with red beech and sycamore maple in the tree layer and woodruff , onion toothroot , forest barley and single-flowered pearly grass in the herb layer developed on locations with a good supply of nutrients . Where these locations are more humid, the herb layer is characterized by chickweed , spotted orchid and angular sedge .

In contrast, a hornbeam and beech forest has developed in poorer locations . The tree layer is characterized by sessile oak as a mixed tree species. The herb layer is mainly made up of narrow-leaved grove rims , forest riding grass , wire-smith and two-leaved shadow flower.

Montane brook alder forests have formed at springs and streams, and they are in good condition. Common daphne , common bird cherry and buckthorn grow under black alder , gray alder , common ash and bog birch . On one of the Selke source streams, a meadowsweet swamp stork beak was created .

In this nature reserve and a Moortal is transition Moore with Rotschwingelwiesen , Bärwurzwiesen , and Nardus grasslands . Due to earlier improvement measures , they are often impoverished in species. Mainly large sedges , Scheidiges cotton- grass , devil's bite , globe flower , broad-leaved orchid , swamp violet , swamp yarrow and swamp thistle can be found here . The meadows are u. a. populated by black stork , mountain newt and fire salamander . Important breeding bird species are boreal owl , Dove , Common Snipe and Meadow Pipit . The meadows are to be preserved through coordinated mowing and grazing of partial areas.

The NSG Albrechtshaus is the highest hunting ground in Saxony-Anhalt for the pipistrelle . These animals have their nursery in the buildings of the nearby Albrechtshaus.
