The yellow tooth rust or yellow tooth rust ( Odontites luteus ) is a plant species from the genus of the tooth rust ( Odontites ) in the family of the summer root plants (Orobanchaceae).

The term yellow eyebright is also used as a common name for Naumburg .

Stem with linear, almost entire leaves.

The yellow tooth rust is a 10 to 60 cm tall, strong and sparsely branched, semi-parasitic , annual plant . The leaves are narrow and linear and more or less entire.

The inflorescences are one-sided grapes . The crown is colored yellow and bearded ciliates. The stamens are well beyond the crown.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20.

Occurrence

The yellow tooth rust occurs in Europe and North Africa (subsp. Reboudii ). It grows on patchy xerothermal lawns , in the edges of dry forests and bushes. It prefers moderately dry, mostly chalky, nutrient-poor clay, loess or gypsum soil in warm locations. In Central Europe it is a species of the Festuco-Brometea class, but also occurs in societies of the Sedo-Scleranthetea class.

In Austria, the yellow tooth rust occurs scattered in the Pannonian area and rarely on dry grass in the rest of the area. The occurrences extend to the federal states of Vienna , Lower Austria , Burgenland , Styria , Carinthia and North Tyrol .

Systematics

One can distinguish the following subspecies:

  • Odontites luteus (L.) Clairv. subsp. luteus
  • Odontites luteus subsp. bonifaciensis (Rouy) P. Fourn. (Syn .: Euphrasia bonifaciensis Rouy ): It occurs in Corsica.
  • Odontites luteus subsp. reboudii (Pomel) Quézel & Santa : It occurs only in Algeria.
