Johann Ludwig Anton Rust

Johann Ludwig Anton Rust (born December 21, 1721 in Reinstedt , † October 1785 in Bernburg ) was a German lawyer . Rust was a princely Anhalt-Bernburg archivist and librarian . He also wrote under the pseudonym Busso Ludolf Ratzeberger .

Life

Rust was the son of the princely Anhalt-Dessau chamber councilor and bailiff Konrad Heinrich Rust († January 3, 1751 in Wörlitz ). His mother Katharina Juliane († July 11, 1774) was the daughter of Heinrich Berthold Wagner, Oberamtmann zu Reinstedt. He was first taught by private tutors and from 1737 attended the comprehensive high school in Zerbst . From October 1740 he studied at the University of Wittenberg law , but also heard lectures on history and philosophy . From 1744 to 1745 he studied at the University of Leipzig . In Leipzig he was asked to perform as a violinist by Johann Sebastian Bach , who recognized his good musical education and talent .

In August 1751 he was hired as a proper government advocate in Dessau . When his father died in the same year, he took over the further training and education of his three younger brothers, especially the youngest, Friedrich Wilhelm Rust . In 1752 he became a court clerk in Gröbzig and in October 1755 Prince Viktor Friedrich von Anhalt-Bernburg appointed him as a clerk in the government and the consistory in Bernburg. In March 1757 Rust was appointed registrar in both colleges. A short time later he was entrusted with the administration of the seniority files until on May 18, 1765, the princely Anhalt seniorate fell to the Anhalt-Köthen line and he had to finish his work.

In 1760 Rust was one of the founders of the German Society in Anhalt. He took over the position of the elder as well as the holder of the documents and secretary of the society. In 1768 Prince Friedrich Albrecht von Anhalt-Bernburg entrusted him with the management of the Princely Anhalt-Bernburger Archives and the Princely Library in Bernburg. He worked there until his death. In 1769 Rust became an honorary member of the Latin Society in Altdorf and in 1774 of the Bavarian Society of Moral and Agricultural Sciences in Burghausen .

Johann Ludwig Anton Rust left behind an extensive body of literature . His works are primarily linguistic studies, but also include historical and legal studies. He was also editor and co-author of the series of publications Anhalt Critical Library . A part of his written estate is in the Saxon State Library / State and University Library Dresden .
