On July 1, 2014, the new municipal constitutional law of the state of Saxony-Anhalt came into force. In its §14 (2) the municipalities are given the opportunity to assign this designation to the districts that were towns before the incorporation. The city of Southern Anhalt made use of this regulation. Their new main statutes came into force on January 14, 2015. In §8 (1) the districts are listed with their official names. The localities are not affected.

history

Until 1950 there were 2 cities and 45 rural communities in what is now the city. In 2009, after numerous incorporations, 21 independent municipalities remained, which were organized in the administrative community of Southern Anhalt . 18 of them, namely Edderitz, Fraßdorf, Glauzig, Großbadegast, Hinsdorf, Libehna, Maasdorf, Meilendorf, Prosigk, Quellendorf, Radegast, Reupzig, Riesdorf, Scheuder, Trebbichau an der Fuhne, Weißandt-Gölzau, Wieskau and Zehbitz joined in the course of the municipal reform Saxony-Anhalt voluntarily merged into a new unified municipality with city rights on January 1, 2010 .

The town of Gröbzig , which is also part of the administrative community, and the communities of Görzig and Piethen did not sign the area change agreement for the formation of the town of Southern Anhalt , but were co-administered by it until they were incorporated on September 1, 2010. Because of the factual compulsory incorporation of the community of Görzig, a constitutional complaint procedure was pending, which was rejected.
