history
Glauzig was first mentioned in a document in 1253 as Gluseck (Gluchteck). The name probably goes back to the name of the former Gaus or Untergau Coledizi .
Industrial history
In 1847 a raw sugar factory with a refinery was founded in Glauzig. In April 1872 the sugar factory was converted into a stock corporation with a capital of 4,500,000 marks. The sugar factory also took over 2,367 acres of arable land, consisting of the manors Glauzig, Piethen and Klein-Weißandt, the Arensdorf factory and the fields in Görzig. Furthermore, lease agreements were made with the domains Gnetsch, Fernsdorf and Riesdorf, the manors Groß-Weißandt and Edderitz and some farm and church fields, so that a total of 7200 acres (1838 ha) were available for cultivation.
In 1914 the Glauzig sugar factory was connected to the railway network. In 1923 the sugar factory was expanded further, so that the increase in production rose to around 40,000 quintals per day.
After the end of the Second World War in 1946, the sugar factory was dismantled and given to the Soviet Union as reparation . A tobacco fermentation plant was built on the site of the former sugar refinery. In 1950, the VEB Rohtabak took over tobacco fermentation .
1990 came the end of tobacco processing. Today the tobacco factory is abandoned in Glauzig. A few years ago the largest tower at the top was blown up because of the risk of collapse.
Until the formation of the unitary community of Southern Anhalt on January 1, 2010, Glauzig was an independent community in the administrative community of Southern Anhalt with the associated district of Rohndorf (incorporated into Glauzig on July 1, 1950). The last mayor of Glauzig was Volkmar Schöbe.
