Quellendorf is a district of the city of Southern Anhalt in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district in Saxony-Anhalt .

Until the formation of the unitary community of Southern Anhalt on January 1, 2010, Quellendorf was an independent community in the administrative community of Southern Anhalt with the associated district of Diesdorf. The last mayor of Quellendorf was Doris Zimmermann.

geography

Quellendorf is located about 15 kilometers southwest of Dessau-Roßlau and twelve kilometers east of the district town of Köthen (Anhalt) . The area between the Elbe and Fuhne is very poorly forested and is used intensively for agriculture - the Mosigkauer Heide northeast of Quellendorf is one of the few large contiguous forest areas in the region.

history

Source village

Richard von Qualendorf is considered to be the founder of today's Quellendorf . The first written mention of the place comes from the year 1265 as Qualendorp . By law of the Duke of Anhalt of August 10, 1838, the place was renamed to Quellenendorf with reference to a nearby spring.

In 1871 Field Marshal Count Leonhardt von Blumenthal received a grant after the war in 1870/71. For this he bought the Quellendorf estate from General Count Henckel von Donnersmarck. During his lifetime, Field Marshal Quellendorf handed it over to his son-in-law Rudolf Ritter und Edlem von Oettinger.

In 1955 a Catholic church was built by the Quellendorf Curate , which was again profaned in 2017 as the Maria Queen chapel .

From 1974 to 1979 an outdoor swimming pool was built by the National Reconstruction Agency . Due to a lack of funds for renovation, it was last opened in 2003. It has been unused since then (as of 2017).

The community became known nationwide when the mayor Norbert Lindner (now Michaela Lindner ) appeared in 1998 wearing make-up and wearing women's clothes. The municipal council initiated a voting procedure without giving any reason. Lindner was voted out as mayor of the small community with 482 votes of the 782 eligible voters.

Diesdorf

Diesdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1469.

coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on April 11, 2008 by the district.

Blazon : “Fourth of silver and blue; Field 1: a black boar's head with a red tusk, fields 2 and 3: two golden ears of wheat, field 4: a blue spring fountain. "

The colors of Quellendorf are blue - silver (white).

On November 13, 2007, the local council decided to use a new coat of arms and commissioned the heraldist Jörg Mantzsch with the realization . The symbolism of the coat of arms is linked to three essential factors:

- the coat of arms of the von Qualen family , who lived in the village for many generations and appeared in documents from the 13th and 14th centuries,
- Agriculture, which for centuries was the economic basis of the population in addition to some animal husbandry
- and the source from which a settlement very likely originated.

These conditions are symbolized by the boar's head from the coat of arms of those of Qualen, the ears of grain and the spring in the coat of arms.

The place name was called Qualendorp or Qualendorf in earlier times and was renamed to today's source village by order of the Prince of Anhalt. Although the place name is associated with the von Qualen family and less with the nearby source, the sovereign did not like the fact that his subjects should live in a "Qualen village".

The von Qualen family was of Danish-Holstein origin and once had such important representatives that z. B. Franziska Genoveva von Qualen was accepted onto Denmark's 500 kroner note.

Following the place name, blue was chosen as the dominant sign color in connection with water.

flag

The flag is blue and white (1: 1) striped (horizontal shape: stripes running horizontally, lengthways shape: stripes running vertically) and centered with the municipal coat of arms.

Attractions

The Dessau-Süd motorway junction is about ten kilometers away ( A 9 Berlin - Munich ). The next train stations are in Dessau-Roßlau , Köthen and Raguhn .
