Cut ( German  Kokt , Hungarian Kútfalva , translated "well village ") is a Romanian community in the Alba district in Transylvania .

Other traditional German names are Brunnendorf , Quellendorf and Kutta .

Geographical location

The community Cut is located in the Transylvanian Unterwald , 3 kilometers north of the European route 68 (between Sebeş and Sibiu ) and from the Secaş river ( Zekesch ). Sebeş - the next larger city - is about 12 kilometers to the west and the district capital Alba Iulia is 29 kilometers to the northwest.

history

The place Cut was first mentioned in 1291 under the name terra Kut .

Cut became an independent community in 2004 when it broke away from Câlnic ( Kelling ).

population

In 1850 there were 1187 inhabitants in today's village. 1170 were Romanians and 17 were Roma . In 1900 the number of Romanians had risen to 1837 and 6 Germans, which was the highest number of the German population of the place, were counted. In 1941 the highest number of inhabitants (2103), exclusively Romanians, was registered. In 1992 there were 1331 Romanians, two Hungarians , one German and 57 Roma. At the 2002 census there were 1254 people in Cut, including 1253 Romanians and one Hungarian. The highest number of Hungarians (4) was counted in 1890.
