Almașu Mare ( German  Groß-Obstdorf , Hungarian Nagyalmás ) is a Romanian municipality in the Alba district in Transylvania .

The village consists of seven villages with a total of approx. 1500 inhabitants and is located on the southern edge of the Apuseni Mountains ( Rum. Munții Apuseni ). The nearest town Zlatna is 15 km and the district capital Alba Iulia 52 kilometers from Almașu Mare. The villages belonging to the municipality are located at an altitude between 600 and 1200 m and cover an area of ​​8930 hectares.

history

Ore has been mined in the region since Roman times . The place, however, was first mentioned in a document in 1407 under the name Possesia Almas .

Attractions

  • The village museum was founded by Achim Emilian and bears his name. It includes a collection of over 4000 exhibits.
  • The churches of Buna Vestire (before 1418) and Schimbarea la Față (1822); a farm, a wooden house and a polygonal barn (the last three in the village of Brădet (ung. Bregyét házcsoport ), built in the 19th century) are listed as historical monuments.
  • A 4.10 meter high memorial in honor of the Romanian soldiers from the First and Second World Wars was erected in the center of the municipality in 1943 and 1944.
